BBB Auto Line is the certified IDS used by most major manufacturers in Louisiana. Under § 51:1944, if the manufacturer’s IDS is certified (16 C.F.R. Part 703 compliant), the consumer must use that procedure first before court action for Lemon Law claims.
Important: Redhibition does NOT require IDS
Critically, Redhibition is a civil-law remedy that does NOT require BBB Auto Line or other IDS first. Consumers can file Redhibition court actions directly without going through arbitration.
Same for LUTPA and Magnuson-Moss claims — both are court-only and bypass BBB Auto Line.

- Toyota / Lexus, Honda / Acura, Ford / Lincoln, General Motors, Nissan / Infiniti, Hyundai / Genesis, Kia, BMW / Mini, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen / Audi / Porsche, Subaru, Volvo, Stellantis (varies).
Tesla and Rivian generally do NOT participate in BBB Auto Line — Louisiana consumers go directly to court.
What BBB can award
- Refund of purchase price + tax + fees + incidental damages.
- Replacement vehicle.
What BBB cannot award
- LUTPA treble damages — court only.
- Redhibition rescission — court only.
- Attorney fees — § 51:1947 fees apply only in court action.
