The firm's history reflects deep roots in the community. After founding his practice, Hanaway paused his career from 1942 to serve as an FBI special agent before returning to Green Bay in 1945. He then established Hanaway & Byrnes with John Byrnes, who went on to serve in Congress. When Allan Ross joined in 1963, the partnership continued until Hanaway's retirement in 1989. The current team carries forward this legacy of excellence and professionalism.

His practice focuses on criminal law—including felony, misdemeanor, and OWI cases—as well as civil litigation involving personal injury, commercial disputes, and collections. Christina L. Peterson and other team members similarly bring substantial legal experience and community involvement to the firm.
