New York's Lemon Law protects purchasers, lessees, and registrants of new vehicles, motorcycles, and motorhomes for the first 18 months or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first. A vehicle qualifies if it has undergone four or more repair attempts for the same substantial defect within that period, or has been out of service for 30 cumulative days for repairs related to any defect. The defect must substantially impair the vehicle's value, use, or safety. Common issues include check engine lights, water leaks, vibration problems, locking failures, infotainment system malfunctions, and transmission troubles.

When a vehicle qualifies, clients may pursue complete repurchase (with a mileage deduction beyond 12,000 miles), a replacement vehicle applied toward the manufacturer's suggested retail price, or cash compensation while retaining the vehicle. In repurchase cases involving leased vehicles, clients may recover a significant percentage of their lease payments. Settlements do not result in a branded title, do not void the warranty, and do not require disclosure at resale or trade-in.
