From 2020 to 2024, he served as a prosecutor in Winnebago County, where he successfully tried numerous jury and bench trials involving DUI, domestic violence, juvenile cases, and felonies. Since 2019, Vernsten has also served as a soldier and attorney with the Illinois Army National Guard, where he litigates administrative cases and provides legal counsel to military personnel and their families.
